Cloudways vs SiteGround: which gives you more for your money?

Choose SiteGround shared hosting when a simpler bundled package meets your website's needs. Shortlist Cloudways Flexible when configurable resources, provider choice and server-level planning solve a real limitation. Neither is the automatic value winner. SiteGround's renewal bill and Cloudways' extras can change the decision substantially.

This guide compares Cloudways Flexible with SiteGround's StartUp, GrowBig and GoGeek shared-hosting plans. It does not treat SiteGround Cloud or Cloudways Autonomous as equivalent products. Those have separate resource, scaling and cost models.

For a first business website, convenience can be worth more than additional controls. For an established WordPress site or store, application fit, recovery and peak demand matter more than a low introductory headline. We have not benchmarked these hosts against each other or timed their support.

A Cloudways server's RAM and CPU allocation is not directly comparable to a shared plan's suggested monthly visits. Suggested traffic is not a measured guarantee. Likewise, multiple or unlimited websites does not mean unlimited compute, storage, database work or customer concurrency.

Cloudways provides a managed stack, not unrestricted root access or unlimited custom software support. If you need operating-system control or a particular architecture, verify compatibility instead of assuming a cloud-branded product provides it.

Cloudways vs SiteGround pricing: compare the first bill and the renewal

Our earlier October 20 research recorded the following USD figures. They are a dated planning reference, not today's guaranteed checkout prices. Region, promotion, billing term, tax and configuration can change the actual quote.

October 20, 2026 reference figures; taxes and extra services excluded
    OptionReference priceWhat the price describes
Cloudways DigitalOcean Premium Micro$14/month1 GB RAM, 1 vCPU, 25 GB NVMe and 1 TB transfer
Cloudways DigitalOcean Premium Small$28/month2 GB RAM, 1 vCPU, 50 GB storage and 2 TB transfer
SiteGround StartUp$2.99/month initially; $17.99/month renewal12-month introductory and renewal reference
SiteGround GrowBig$4.99/month initially; $29.99/month renewal12-month introductory and renewal reference

Cloudways' advertised $11 starting headline and the $14 Premium Micro example are different configurations. Do not present them as interchangeable quotes. Flexible pay-as-you-go pricing also does not promise permanent rates: providers, add-ons and offers can change.

Official SiteGround research for this comparison on October 21 confirmed the same 12-month StartUp and GrowBig introductory and renewal figures. GoGeek was listed at $7.99/month initially and $44.99/month on a 12-month renewal. The promotion is prepaid for 12 months. These are published USD offers, not a private checkout quote; taxes and market-specific offers can differ.

The regular-rate article updated October 12 lists lower monthly equivalents on 24-month renewals: StartUp $14.99, GrowBig $24.99 and GoGeek $39.99. A longer renewal term changes the calculation and means a larger upfront commitment. Do not compare an annual renewal against a two-year prepaid rate without saying so.

    What a two-year comparison reveals

Illustrative arithmetic at unchanged reference rates: StartUp at $2.99 for 12 months plus $17.99 for the next 12 totals $251.76. GrowBig at $4.99 then $29.99 totals $419.76. A $14 Cloudways server for 24 months totals $336 before backup storage and extras; a $28 server totals $672 before extras.

These are not equal-capacity packages or a prediction of future rates. They show why SiteGround is not automatically more expensive after renewal, and why Cloudways is not automatically better value. Select suitable plans first, then compare the same period and required services.

For Cloudways, budget backup storage, any CDN add-on, mailboxes, transactional email, usage and paid support. Our earlier example of a $28 server, $4.99 CDN domain and $1.50 mailbox totals $34.49/month before backups, usage and tax. Use the Cloudways pricing guide and SiteGround's regular-rate list to verify the exact term.

Backups, staging, email and CDN: which services are bundled?

    ServiceCloudways FlexibleSiteGround shared plans
BackupsOff-site storage billed separately; confirm schedule and retentionDaily backups listed; on-demand backups from GrowBig
StagingDocumented staging and push/pull workflowListed on GrowBig and GoGeek, not StartUp
MailboxesSeparate service and billEmail listed; check mailbox and sending limits
CDNConfirm optional services and pricesFree CDN listed; verify tier and allowances
Website maintenanceNot a blanket custom-code maintenance serviceDo not assume all plugins and custom code are maintained

SiteGround's bundled services can reduce setup work for a small business. But “included” is not the same as unlimited or suited to every workload. Check retention, restore access, email quotas, CDN limits and the actual plan matrix on the official shared-hosting page.

The SiteGround plan comparison checked for this article lists StartUp at one website and 10 GB storage, GrowBig at unlimited websites and 50 GB, and GoGeek at unlimited websites and 100 GB. GoGeek also lists priority support. “Unlimited websites” and “unmetered traffic” are not promises of unlimited shared-server capacity.

Cloudways' off-site backup guide and staging instructions explain separate costs and workflows. A backup is useful only if the recovery process is appropriate and tested. Neither host's daily backup claim establishes zero data loss for a busy store.

Do not push an old staging database over a live shop that has received orders. Choose a change and recovery procedure that preserves customer activity, regardless of the hosting brand.

Cloudways vs SiteGround speed: no unsupported winner

We have not conducted a controlled head-to-head benchmark. This article does not award a speed, uptime or support-response winner. Infrastructure names, caching features and a fast homepage demonstration cannot establish the performance of your own website.

Test the same application, content, software and caching state. Use visitor locations relevant to your business and measure cached public pages separately from dynamic account, search and checkout requests. Record failures and resource pressure alongside response times.

    • Keep the theme, plugins, image sizes and third-party scripts equivalent.
    • Document the Cloudways family and resources and the exact SiteGround plan.
    • Repeat measurements instead of declaring a winner from one request.
    • Use safe isolated tests; do not flood a live payment gateway or another party's service.

For Cloudways infrastructure choices, use our DigitalOcean vs Vultr vs AWS guide. If the application is slow because of expensive database queries or external API calls, changing hosts may not remove the underlying problem.

WordPress and WooCommerce: convenience versus configurable capacity

For a modest WordPress site, SiteGround's bundled workflow may be the more comfortable purchase when its renewal is acceptable. If staging matters, compare GrowBig rather than assuming the entry plan provides every WordPress tool.

Cloudways becomes a stronger shortlist candidate when a defined workload needs configurable resources, several applications or a particular available cloud region. Our Cloudways WordPress review explains its tooling and limits. It is not a promise that moving from shared hosting always makes a site faster.

For WooCommerce, test personalised carts, checkout, payment webhooks, emails and scheduled actions. More RAM does not automatically fix a slow extension, and a cached catalogue is not proof of fast checkout. Our Cloudways store guide covers the operational checks.

Before a campaign, define peak-demand capacity, who monitors the site, how failed payments are detected and how recent orders are recovered. Choose the host that supports that plan at a sustainable cost; do not buy from an untested “visitors per month” promise.

Support and ease of use: what are you still responsible for?

SiteGround uses Site Tools, while Cloudways has its own server and application management interface. Ease of use is partly personal: try the workflows you actually need rather than relying on a generic simplicity score.

Cloudways lists standard 24/7 live chat and tickets, with paid support levels that have different scopes. Read the support-plan definitions. We have not verified response times or tested complex incidents.

For either host, ask what happens when a third-party plugin, integration or custom code fails. Infrastructure support should not be treated as a full development retainer. Assign responsibility for updates, testing, malware incidents, application errors and restoration.

SiteGround advertises 24/7 support, and its support-scope policy describes chat, phone and tickets while distinguishing hosting-platform help from arbitrary website-code issues. Advertised availability is not evidence that one host resolves your particular incident faster.

For an agency, also check client permissions, billing ownership, resource contention and recovery separation. Hosting several websites on one server can simplify administration, but it creates shared dependencies. A more expensive arrangement may be justified if it improves isolation or operational clarity.

Trying, migrating and cancelling: read the conditions first

Cloudways documents a three-day Flexible trial. Confirm which providers and sizes are eligible in your account and what happens when the trial ends through its trial instructions. Do not confuse a short trial with a conventional 30-day refund policy or annual uptime evidence.

Its managed-migration guide is the source for eligibility and scope of the first free managed application migration. SiteGround migration options also need a current plan-specific check; a migration plugin and a human-managed move are not necessarily the same service.

SiteGround's refund policy, updated October 7, describes a 30-day money-back guarantee for shared hosting. Renewal refunds have conditions, and domains or other services should not be assumed covered. That is different from Cloudways' short trial and pay-as-you-go billing; do not claim both have the same refund protection.

Before moving, inventory DNS, email, SSL, cron jobs, integrations and application licences. Test the destination privately and agree on the final data transfer. For a store, orders received after the initial copy need an explicit synchronisation or planned cutover procedure.

Check cancellation, automatic renewal and any non-refundable services before paying. Cloudways' billing guide should be reviewed before deleting resources or assuming a stopped application ends all charges. Keep rollback available until the destination is stable. Use our migration checklist for the wider process.

Who should choose SiteGround, and who should choose Cloudways?

Buyer needing custom system controlVerify alternatives before choosing eitherThe required software and access are actually supported

SiteGround's value case is convenience. A bundled package can be a sensible purchase even when its renewal looks high. Cloudways' value case is useful flexibility. Additional controls justify their cost only if you use them to solve a real problem.

If you are comparing a lower-cost shared alternative too, our Hostinger vs SiteGround guide provides another perspective. Do not choose Cloudways just because this page has a Cloudways affiliate link.

Five answers to get before buying

    1. What is the complete bill over your chosen period, including renewal, tax and required extras?
    2. Which tools are included on the exact product and tier?
    3. Does the actual application work within the available resources and usage rules?
    4. Who owns maintenance, monitoring and recovery?
    5. How will the migration preserve new data and allow rollback?

If you want the simpler bundled option, verify SiteGround's current plans. If configurable resources are the priority, compare Cloudways' live quote and trial eligibility before launching.

    Cloudways vs SiteGround FAQ

Should a beginner choose Cloudways or SiteGround?

SiteGround shared hosting is the simpler starting comparison when you want a bundled website, email and backup package. Cloudways Flexible suits buyers who want configurable server resources and can handle capacity planning and separate services. Compare the ongoing quote, not only the first-year offer.

    Is Cloudways cheaper than SiteGround?

Not universally. SiteGround's introductory shared-hosting price can be lower, while its renewal changes the comparison. Cloudways costs depend on the selected server, backup storage, add-ons and usage. Compare the same time period and complete service requirements.

    Is Cloudways faster than SiteGround?

GoodHosters has not run a controlled side-by-side test, so this guide does not establish a speed winner. Test the same website, caching state, audience locations and dynamic workflows on the actual configurations you are considering.

Does Cloudways include email like SiteGround?

Do not assume mailboxes are bundled with Cloudways Flexible. Budget for an appropriate mailbox and transactional sending service. SiteGround lists email in its shared-hosting package, but check storage, sending limits and suitability for your business.

Is SiteGround staging included on StartUp?

The shared-plan comparison places staging on GrowBig and GoGeek, not StartUp. Confirm the current plan matrix before purchasing if staging is a requirement.

    Which is better for WooCommerce?

A small shop may value a bundled plan; a growing shop may benefit from configurable resources. Neither choice guarantees checkout capacity. Test personalised carts, payments in test mode, background tasks and recovery with the actual store.

Does selecting Cloudways Flexible give automatic scaling?

No. Flexible server sizing should not be confused with Cloudways Autonomous, the separate WordPress autoscaling product. SiteGround shared hosting and SiteGround Cloud also need separate comparisons.

Sources, research date and what we have not tested

Prepared by GoodHosters Editorial on . Official SiteGround offers, plan inclusions, regular rates, support scope and refund guidance were researched for this comparison. Cloudways numeric prices reuse our October 20 snapshot because the latest retrieved official evidence did not establish a reliable complete price matrix. No live account quote was obtained. Recommendations and arithmetic are editorial analysis, not a benchmark or prediction of future rates.

We have not measured a head-to-head speed or uptime result, timed support, performed a migration or obtained live checkout quotes. No stars, visitor-capacity claims or zero-data-loss promises are invented. The title illustration is conceptual, and screenshot spaces await genuine evidence.
