Cloudways pricing in 2026: the quick answer
Cloudways Flexible is advertised from $11/month, but the displayed DigitalOcean Premium entry server costs $14/month before backup storage, optional add-ons and taxes. Cloudways Autonomous is a different WordPress autoscaling product: the Growth, Scale and Plus cards we checked displayed $99, $199 and $399 per month, with usage charges beyond their allowances.
For a steady small business website, start by testing an appropriately sized Flexible server. For a store or learning site with unpredictable bursts, compare Autonomous's baseline capacity and overage bill rather than treating it as a more expensive version of the same server.
We checked the official pricing page on . All figures below are in USD. This guide explains the published options we could verify, not a promise that every region or account has identical pricing. The launch-screen quote and applicable billing terms take priority.

Cloudways Flexible vs Autonomous: two different cost models
| Cost question | Flexible | Autonomous |
|---|---|---|
| What do you buy? | A managed server configuration on a selected cloud provider | A WordPress plan with baseline autoscale servers and allowances |
| Main price drivers | Provider, region, RAM, CPU, storage and server family | Plan tier, baseline capacity and usage beyond allowances |
| Multiple sites | Applications share one server's resources | Displayed Growth, Scale and Plus cards each list one website |
| Cloudflare Enterprise | Optional paid add-on | Listed as included |
| Scaling | You manage vertical server sizing | Autoscaling with possible extra capacity charges |
A $28 Flexible server and a $99 Autonomous plan are not interchangeable packages. One quotes server resources; the other includes a different scaling model and services. Compare them using your site's actual needs, not only the difference between the two headlines.
Neither a bigger server nor autoscaling guarantees a faster website. GoodHosters has not run a controlled Cloudways performance test. Slow plugins, database queries and checkout integrations still need attention.
Cloudways Flexible pricing: verified DigitalOcean Premium sizes
The official pricing page offers DigitalOcean Standard and Premium options as well as different resource families. The following table covers the four clearly displayed Premium Basic sizes we verified. It is not a complete price list for every provider, location or dedicated-CPU family.
| Size | Monthly / hourly | RAM / vCPU | NVMe storage | Transfer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Micro | $14 / $0.0208 | 1 GB / 1 | 25 GB | 1 TB |
| Small | $28 / $0.0417 | 2 GB / 1 | 50 GB | 2 TB |
| Medium | $54 / $0.0804 | 4 GB / 2 | 80 GB | 4 TB |
| Large | $99 / $0.1473 | 8 GB / 4 | 160 GB | 5 TB |
What does each size actually buy you?
- Micro: a low-cost trial candidate for a light, cached website. Its 1 GB RAM allocation is limited; do not assume it suits a store or several demanding sites.
- Small: a 2 GB option worth testing for a modest business website when the entry size lacks headroom. It is not a guaranteed visitor-capacity upgrade.
- Medium: 4 GB RAM and 2 vCPUs provide more resource headroom for heavier applications or several sites. Check which caching tools are included in your account.
- Large: 8 GB RAM and 4 vCPUs for workloads that justify the extra cost. Buy it because monitoring shows pressure, not because the plan's marketing mentions eCommerce.
The page's $11 starting headline is not the displayed $14 Premium Micro card. Select the exact Standard or Premium tier before comparing costs. We have not filled gaps in the live provider selector with older prices from unrelated reviews.
DigitalOcean General Purpose and CPU Optimized families target different workloads and may use dedicated resources. They are not equivalent to adding RAM to a Basic server. Obtain a quote for the specific family if you need it.

DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode, AWS and Google Cloud: what changes the bill?
Cloudways lists five Flexible infrastructure providers. Availability depends on the product, region and account. The launch screen should show the exact configuration price; a raw cloud-provider quote is not the same as Cloudways' managed-service price.
| Provider | What to compare before launching |
|---|---|
| DigitalOcean | Standard vs Premium, Basic vs dedicated-resource families, included transfer and location |
| Vultr | Standard vs High Frequency, storage type, available region and transfer allowance |
| Linode | Available size, region, included storage and transfer allowance |
| AWS | Region, server family, storage configuration and usage-based bandwidth |
| Google Cloud | Region, server resources, storage and regional bandwidth charges |
AWS and Google Cloud prices vary by region, according to Cloudways. Their transfer costs deserve particular attention for media-heavy websites. We could not reliably verify a full current server-price matrix for all five providers from the public page, so we do not present historic entry prices as today's offers.
For transfer beyond the applicable allowance, the pricing FAQ lists DigitalOcean at $0.02/GB, AWS at $0.12/GB and Google Cloud at $0.10 to $0.17/GB depending on region. Confirm the included allowance and the selected region's rate in your quote. Do not assume Vultr or Linode use the DigitalOcean rate.
Choose a location close to the main audience, then compare total cost. A more expensive provider is not automatically faster for your site. For most buyers, a sensible location, adequate resources and good caching matter more than the prestige of a cloud brand.
Cloudways Autonomous pricing: base plans and overage charges
The clearly labelled Autonomous cards displayed these plans during our check. They list unmetered visits, but disk, bandwidth and baseline autoscale capacity are not unlimited. Enterprise uses a custom quote.
| Plan | Base price | Baseline servers | Disk / bandwidth | Extra autoscale server-hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Growth | $99 | 1 | 20 GB / 150 GB | $0.07 |
| Scale | $199 | 2 | 50 GB / 250 GB | $0.10 |
| Plus | $399 | 3 | 100 GB / 1,000 GB | $0.12 |
Each of these cards lists disk overages at $1/GB and bandwidth overages at $0.04/GB. The autoscaling rate applies to additional capacity beyond the baseline, not simply to all hours your site is online. Ask how usage is measured and rounded before relying on a forecast.
Price discrepancy to check: Cloudways' Autonomous billing documentation uses a $100 Growth example, while the public Growth card displays $99. We report the displayed card price, not a guaranteed account quote. Confirm both the base rate and usage rules before buying.
Cloudflare Enterprise CDN, Redis caching, Object Cache Pro plus Relay and managed migration are listed on the paid plan cards. Check the specific product documentation for backup and recovery inclusions rather than adding Flexible's off-site backup tariff to an Autonomous budget by default.
Our advice: consider Growth only when you need this product's WordPress autoscaling model, not because it has a more reassuring name. Consider Scale or Plus when baseline capacity and allowances justify the recurring price. A cached site with steady traffic may be better served by a smaller Flexible configuration.
Cloudways extra costs: backups, CDN, email and maintenance
| Item | Published price | Budgeting note |
|---|---|---|
| Off-site backup storage | $0.033/GB per server | Separate from live storage; retention and billing rules affect the total |
| Cloudflare Enterprise | From $4.99/domain/month | Optional on Flexible; do not add it twice if your product includes it |
| Rackspace email | $1.50/mailbox/month | Mailboxes are separate from website transactional email |
| Site Manager | Listed at $3/app/month | Optional app-level service; confirm what your subscription includes |
| Malware Protection | Listed at $4/app/month | Paid add-on; not proof that a website cannot be compromised |
| Higher support tier | Get a current quote | Support promotion text and list pricing differ on the public page |
| Domain registration | Separate registrar cost | Do not assume a free domain is included |
Backup usage is not simply your live website's size. Retained restore points and the billing rules affect how much is charged. Read the official off-site backup billing guide and check the account's storage total instead of predicting an exact invoice from your WordPress upload folder.
Flexible off-site backups are a required cost, not an optional extra to remove from the budget. The examples below omit the unknown backup subtotal, not the need to pay it.
Standard live chat and ticket support are advertised as included. Advanced and Premium support broaden the offering, but the pricing page showed both promotional and list-price wording. Get the scope and price in writing if your budget depends on a support upgrade.
Several websites on one Flexible server do not automatically multiply the server fee. However, a $4-per-application add-on applied to three sites would cost $12/month. Check which applications and domains have each paid service enabled.
What will you actually pay? Three worked Cloudways budgets
These are arithmetic examples using the displayed rates, not checkout quotes. They exclude taxes, unspecified usage, backup billing adjustments and any services not explicitly named.
| Scenario | Calculation | Subtotal |
|---|---|---|
| Flexible business site | $28 Small server + $4.99 CDN for one domain + $1.50 mailbox | $34.49 before backups and other usage |
| Three client sites on Medium | $54 server + three $1.50 mailboxes | $58.50 before backups, CDN and app add-ons |
| Autonomous Growth with excess usage | $99 base + 50 GB excess bandwidth × $0.04 + 100 extra server-hours × $0.07 | $108 before disk overages, taxes and other charges |
The third example assumes those 100 server-hours are billable extra capacity beyond Growth's baseline, not 100 hours of ordinary baseline operation. The real invoice depends on the product's usage accounting.
For a long-term budget, $34.49 × 12 is $413.88 for a year before the excluded costs, assuming unchanged rates and configuration. That is a useful planning comparison, not an annual Cloudways contract or prepaid discount.
A low-cost shared-hosting plan may still be better value for a first blog that needs a domain and email. Compare the full signup and renewal totals in our Hostinger pricing guide rather than comparing two introductory headlines.

Cloudways hourly billing, promotions, scaling and cancellation
Flexible is billed hourly and invoiced in arrears for previous-month usage. The public monthly card is a comparison figure; do not assume multiplying a displayed hourly rate by any arbitrary month length will reproduce every invoice. Check the billing guide for the applicable calculation and account rules.
The newer monthly vs hourly billing guide describes monthly caps for DigitalOcean, Linode and Vultr servers active throughout the month. Do not automatically apply those caps to AWS, Google Cloud, add-ons or Autonomous. For a mid-month resize, confirm the applicable calculation rather than assuming every charge is a simple daily prorate.
Changing server size during a month changes the billed usage. If you upgrade because of a temporary event, check the downgrade process first. Provider and storage restrictions may require a clone or migration rather than a simple in-place size reduction. Flexible is not the same as Autonomous autoscaling.
The pricing page displayed a 30% off for three months promotion during our check. We have not verified its full eligibility or redemption terms, so we do not guarantee that it applies to every signup, stacks with another offer or is automatically supplied by our link. Budget for the ongoing price after an offer ends.
Cloudways advertises a three-day trial without a credit card. Check the restrictions and what happens when you add payment details. A trial is not a general money-back guarantee, and cancellation does not remove charges you have already incurred.
Removing your domain or putting a site into maintenance mode is not a reliable way to end hosting charges. Follow the product's deletion and cancellation instructions for servers, applications and add-ons, and confirm there are no remaining chargeable resources. Export a backup before removing anything you still need.
Which Cloudways plan should you buy?
| Your workload | Start by evaluating | What should justify spending more? |
|---|---|---|
| Small cached blog or portfolio | A trial on a small Flexible configuration | Memory pressure, slow uncached requests or insufficient disk headroom |
| Business WordPress site | DigitalOcean Premium Small as one test candidate | Actual CPU/memory load and response under representative traffic |
| Several client sites | Medium or separate appropriately sized servers | Combined workload and the need to isolate important sites |
| WooCommerce or membership site | Flexible sized from checkout and logged-in testing | Uncached load, database work and background jobs |
| WordPress with unpredictable surges | Autonomous with a full overage forecast | A real need for automated capacity beyond the baseline |
| App requiring root access | A different hosting arrangement | Cloudways does not provide root access |
There is no trustworthy universal visitor count for each RAM tier. Ten simultaneous cached-page readers and ten logged-in shoppers can create very different loads. Test the pages that actually earn your business money, including checkout, forms and account areas.
Use the trial to migrate a copy, verify email and forms, test uncached activity and check CPU, memory and disk use. If a smaller configuration meets your needs with sensible headroom, there is no reason to buy a bigger one solely because it is marked popular.

Check current Cloudways plansHow to avoid overspending on Cloudways
- Price the ongoing setup. Include servers, backup storage, email, domains and paid services before considering a promotion.
- Start with measured requirements. Optimise caching, plugins and images before assuming more RAM fixes the problem.
- Check the unit of each add-on. A server, a domain, an application and a mailbox are different billing units.
- Review staging and cloned resources. A separate running server can add another hosting bill; check what you launched.
- Monitor transfer and disk. Media-heavy sites and retained backups can change the economics of an apparently cheap configuration.
- Plan capacity changes in both directions. Ask how to return to a smaller setup after a busy period.
- Keep isolation where it matters. Sharing one server can save money, but a critical store may deserve separation from unrelated client websites.
The best Cloudways price is the lowest total cost that reliably supports your workload and recovery needs. It is not necessarily the cheapest server, and it is not necessarily the largest one.
Cloudways pricing FAQ
What is the cheapest Cloudways plan?
Cloudways advertises Flexible from $11 per month. The DigitalOcean Premium Micro card checked on October 20, 2026 displayed $14 per month for 1 GB RAM, 1 vCPU and 25 GB NVMe storage. The starting headline and the Premium card describe different options. Check your selected tier and location before buying.
Does Cloudways have a renewal price increase?
Flexible uses pay-as-you-go billing rather than requiring a multi-year introductory contract. That does not guarantee a permanent price: promotions expire and provider or add-on rates may change. Budget using the ongoing rate shown for your configuration, not a temporary discount.
Are backups included in the Cloudways server price?
On Flexible, off-site backup storage is charged separately at the published rate of $0.033 per GB per server. Storage usage and billing rules affect the invoice. Autonomous has a separate product model, so do not apply this Flexible rate to every Cloudways plan.
Can I host multiple websites on one Cloudways server?
Flexible allows multiple applications on one server without a separate server fee for each application. They share memory, CPU, disk and bandwidth. Unlimited websites is not unlimited capacity, and per-application add-ons can still cost extra.
Does Cloudways Autonomous have extra charges?
Yes. The pricing page lists disk overages at $1 per GB and bandwidth overages at $0.04 per GB. Extra autoscaling capacity beyond the baseline is listed at $0.07 per server-hour for Growth, $0.10 for Scale and $0.12 for Plus. Confirm the applicable billing rules before buying.
Is Cloudways email hosting free?
Do not assume mailboxes are included. The pricing page lists Rackspace email at $1.50 per mailbox per month. Website transactional email and domain registration should be budgeted separately.
Which Cloudways plan is best for WooCommerce?
There is no universal best size. Test uncached checkout, product searches and background jobs on Flexible, then choose resources from the measured workload. Consider Autonomous when WordPress autoscaling is a real requirement and its base price and overage model fit your budget.
